Jobsite checklist: get the T&M signed before the crew leaves

Most unsigned T&M tickets aren’t a “software problem.” They’re a timing problem: the authorizing person walked off, and the office inherited a half-finished ticket.

Use this checklist while you’re still on site—not after you throw tools in the truck.

Before you ask for a signature

  1. Line items are filled — labor hours, materials, equipment, and a plain-language note on what extra work was done.
  2. You’re on the right ticket — job name, date, and location match what the GC thinks you did today.
  3. Rates can wait — if the office prices it later, still capture quantities and description now. Don’t block the signature on perfect pricing in the field.

Who should sign

If the right person isn’t there, don’t pretend a coworker’s initials are enough. Note who you need and when they’ll return—or get them on screen before demob.

Capture the signature on screen

  1. Open the T&M on a phone or tablet.
  2. Hand the device to the signee (or stand with them while they review).
  3. Let them read the extras. Fix mistakes before they sign—signatures usually can’t be undone cleanly.
  4. Get the signature. Confirm the signed record is saved.

Paper in a console is not “done.” Screen signed and saved is done.

Before anyone leaves

Miss the third box, and same-day invoicing is already slipping.

Why this beats “email it later”

Email sign-off starts after demob. The signer is gone, reminders stack up, and billing waits. Signing while everyone’s still on the dirt turns a week-long chase into a two-minute handoff.

SignTonight is built for that handoff: field T&M on screen → signature on site → office invoice-ready the same evening. Not a full construction suite—just the sign → bill step.
